The Ophthalmic Practitioners' Group represents the UK's Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians and aims to reform the profession to reflect high standards of public care.
This group was formed following the proposal for an Optometry Degree Apprenticeship by a commercially lead trailblazer group. Many in the profession have concerns about this proposal, namely public safety, and we want to give a voice to those in opposition to it.
We formed due to the lack of response from core organisations in the optometric profession and aim to properly address all the issues being raised. No one person is responsible for our organisation and each member has played their own part.
1. To promote and protect the profession, it's reputation and the public that it serves.
2. To be transparent at all times with our members.
3. To be a voice for the profession and to never be misrepresented by corporate interests.
